Edward J. Northen et al to Thomas Tarpley

This indenture made the fifth day of January in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and six and in the thirtieth
year of the Commonwealth of Virginia between Daniel Lawson, Martin Sisson,
Edward J. Northen, John M. Yearby, Robert Fauntleroy and Moore F.
Brockenbrough, Overseers of the Poor in the County of Richmond of the one
part and Thomas Tarpley of the Parish of North Farnham and county aforesaid
of the other part. Witnesseth that whereas in conformity to an Act of the
General Assembly of Virginia passed the 12th day of January 1802
entitled “An Act Concerning the Glebe Land and Churches Within this
Commonwealth” have advertised and made sale of all the Glebe land lying and
being in the Parish of North Farnham and County of Richmond the same having
become vacant to the said Thomas Tarpley who was the highest bidder for the
sum of four hundred and three pounds then shillings and now the said Daniel
Lawson, Martin Sisson, Edward J. Northen, John M. Yearby, Robert Fauntleroy
and Moore F. Brockenbrough, Overseers of the Poor as aforesaid for and in
consideration of the sum of four hundred and three pounds ten shillings to
them or wither of them and their successors in hand paid or secured to be
paid, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, have bargained and
sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto hum the said Thomas
Tarpley his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns all the aforesaid
Glebe lands in the parish and county aforesaid containing two hundred and
twenty nine acres be the same more of less which was conveyed by Deeds of
Lease and Release from Leroy Griffin to Daniel Hornby, Church Warden, John
Tarpley and others for and in behalf of the parish aforesaid, bearing date
the 3rd and 5th days of May 1735 of record in the
County Court of Richmond reference thereto being had will fully appear which
said land as by the said Deeds is bounded as followeth. Beginning at a
marked corner of a greater parcel of land belonging to the said Leroy
Griffin at a branch known by the name of Turkey Buzzard branch about thirty
fives poles up the said branch from the procoson and running along the said
line S by E245 poles to a hickory where a stake formerly stood at the head
of the meadow branch. Thence S85 E34 perches to a small red oak by another
branch. Thence up the said branch N43 E79 perches, thence N70 E20 perches,
thence N28 E42 perches, thence N19 E154 to the procoson thence down the
procoson to the place where it began. Together with all houses, outhouses,
yards, gardens, orchards, woods, underwoods, trees, ways, waters, and
watercourses, profits, commodities, hereditaments and appurtenances
whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wide appertaining and the
reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents, issues and
profits thereof and of every part and parcel thereof to have and to hold all
and singular the said tenements, hereditaments and all and singular other
the premises hereinbefore mentioned or intended to be hereby bargained and
sold and every part and parcel thereof, with every of these rights, members
and appurtenances unto the said Thomas Tarpley to the only proper use and
behoof of the said Thomas Tarpley his heirs and assigns forever. In witness
whereof the said Daniel Lawson, Martin Sisson, Edward J. Northen, John M.
Yearby, Robert Fauntleroy and Moore F. Brockenbrough, Overseers of the Poor
as foresaid have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above
written.
