Deed Peter Northen from Edmond Northen
Nelms

Note: In this deed, the June 10, 1743 will of Edmund
Northen is mentioned. His daughter, Sarah Northen, married Joshua Nelms.
Edmund Northen Nelms is their son and the grandson of Edmond Northen. Peter
Northen is also the grandson of Edmond Northen. Peter’s parents were Edmond
Northen’s son, William Northen, and his wife, Abigail Minter (Minty).
This indenture made the eighth day of March in the year
of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and ninety three; Between
Edmond Northen Nelms of the County of Worcester and the State of Maryland of
the one part and Peter Northen of the County of Richmond and the State of
Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Edmond Northen Nelms
for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds current money of
Virginia the receipt whereof the said Edmund Northen Nelms doth hereby
acknowledge himself to be fully satisfied, contented and paid hath given,
granted, bargained and sold, assigned, enfeoffed and confirmed, and by these
presents doth give, grant, bargain and sell, alien and confirm unto the said
Peter Northen, his heirs and assigns forever all that messuage, tenement,
tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and sixty eight acres be the
same more of less situate. Laying and being in the County of Richmond Parish
of Lunenburgh and State of Virginia adjoining the land of Rust, the land of
the said Peter Northen and laying on Rusts old ferry road which divides this
from the lands of Goldsby which the said Edmund Northen Nelms formally sold
Jane Goldsby together with all its rights, member, and appurtenances
belonging to the same or in any ways appertaining and also all other rights
and title of lands which the said Edmund Northen Nelms hath or hereafter may
have of, in to every part and parcel of land and premises which he claims
and hath or may have right to under the bequest made to him by his
grandfather Edmund Northen by his last will and testament bearing date the
tenth day of June one thousand seven hundred and forty three, being had will
more fully and at large appear and all rights, titles, privileges whatsoever
to every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances unto the said Peter
Northen, his heirs and assigns to their proper use and behoof of the said
Peter Northen, his heirs and assigns forever and the said Edmund Northen
Nelms for himself and his heirs the said messuage or tenement or premises
and every part thereof against him and his heirs and against all and every
person and persons whatsoever claiming or to claim under him the said Edmund
Northen Nelms to the said Peter Northen, his heirs and assigns shall and
will warrant and forever defend by these presents he the said Edmond Northen
Nelms doth for this covenant grant and agree to and with the said Peter
Northen, his heirs and assigns that he will make, do and execute any other
act or acts, conveyances and assurances in the law for the more shure making
and confirming the bargained premises to the said Peter Northen, his heirs
and assigns, when thereunto required. In witness whereof the said Edmond
Northen Nelms hath set his hand and seale the day and year above written.

hundred and ninety three of the within named Peter Northen the sum of one

At a court held for Richmond County the 3rd
day of June 1793. This deed of bargain and sale from Edmond Northen Nelms
of the one part to Peter Northen of the other part with the receipt thereon
endorsed was proved in open court by two of the witnesses thereunto and
ordered to lie for further proof -- And at a Court held for the said County
the first day of July following the same was further proved by the oath of
Penn T. Sale the other witness thereto and admitted to record.
