Deed
Edward J. and Sarah Northen to Edmund Northen
January
28, 1822
This indenture made and entered into this the 28th
day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty
two between Edward J. Northen and Sarah his wife of the one part and Edmund
Northen of the other part. Witnesseth for and in consideration of the sum of
two hundred dollars of lawful money of Virginia to the said Edward J.
Northen and Sarah his wife in hand paid by the said Edmund Northen at or
before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he
the said Edward J. Northen and Sarah his wife do hereby acknowledge, he the
said Edward J. Northen and Sarah his wife hath granted, bargained, sold and
devised and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell and devise unto the
said Edmund Northen his heirs, executors, administrators or assigns a
certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Richmond
and State of Virginia containing sixty three acres binding on the land of
Rubin Clark deceased Totuskey Creek and the said Edmund Northen land with
all the appurtenances there unto belonging and he the said Edward J. Northen
and Sarah his wife do warrant and ever defend the right of the above
mentioned land and premises unto the said Edmund Northen and his heirs and
assigns forever. The above sixty three acres of land is Lot No. 1 which was
drawn by Edward J. Northen being a part of the land of George Northen
deceased which was divided among his heirs as will plainly show on record
and this Lot No. 1 was drawn by Edward J. Northen. Given under our hands
and seals this day and year above written.

We, Richard Durrett and William D. McCarty, Justices of
the Peace in the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify
that Sarah the wife of Edward J. Northen parties to a certain deed bearing
date on the twenty eighth day of January and hereunto annexed personally
appeared before us in the county aforementioned being examined by us privily
and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to
her, she the said Sarah acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and
declared that she had willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same and
that she wished no to retract it. Given under our hands and seals this
twenty eighth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and twenty two.
