Deed Robert F. and Henrietta Northen
and Elijah S. Williams
September
8, 1847
This indenture made the 8th day of September
in the year 1847 between Robert F. Northen and Henrietta his wife in the one
part and Elijah S. Williams on the other part all of the County of
Richmond. Witnesseth that the R.F. Northen and Henrietta his wife in
consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars lawful money of Virginia to
them in hand paid by the said E. L. Williams at or before the ensealing and
delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged,
bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said
E. L. Williams his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land lying
in the parish of Farnham adjoining the lands of Syell, Jenkins, E. L.
Williams and Joseph S. Packett it being the same tract or parcel of land
purchased by said Northen as sold by William S. Northen, commissioner, under
a decree of the County Court of Richmond and in conformity with the will of
Alexander Bryant, deceased, which said land is now fully described as will
appear on reference to the deed from Wm. S. Northen, Commissioner, to said
R. F. Northen containing one hundred acres be the same more or less, after
reserving as square and compact a lot of eight acres thereof as the said
William and R. F. Northen may agree upon or as the county surveyor may
layoff beginning at the upper corner of Joseph S. Packett’s land on the main
road leading from Darrettsville to Jerusalem Meeting House, together with
all the appurtenances whatsoever to the said land belonging or appertaining
and the revisions, rents, and profits thereof to have and to hold the said
tract or parcel of land of 100 acres more or less tenements, hereditaments
and all and singular other the premises herein before mentioned and every
part and parcel thereof unto the said E. L. Williams, his heirs and assigns
forever. And the Said Robert F. Northen and Henrietta his wife for
themselves and their heirs the said tract or parcel of land with all and
singular the premises and appurtenances before mentioned unto the said E.
L.Williams, his heirs and assigns free from the claim or claims of them the
said Robert F. Northen and Henrietta his wife, their or either of their
heirs and of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall, will and do
warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said
Robert F. Northen and Henrietta his wife have hereunto set the hands and
affixed their seals the day and year first herein written.

Richmond County to wit:
We William A. Brockenbrough and F. Lemoine,
Justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do
hereby certify that Robert F. Northen and Henrietta his wife parties to a
certain deed bearing date the 8th of September 1847 and hereto
annexed, personally appeared before us and acknowledged the same is their
act and deed and desired us to certify the same to the clerk of the County
Court of Richmond in order that the same may be admitted to record. And
furthermore, the said Henrietta the wife of the said Robert F. Northen being
examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the nature of
the said deed fully explained to her acknowledged that she had signed it
with her own free will and accord and did not wish to retract the same.

Virginia:
At a Court of Quarterly Sessions held for
Richmond County at the courthouse on Monday the 6th day of March
1848. This deed of bargain and sale from Robert F. Northen and Henrietta
his wife to Elijah L. Williams was this day presented, acknowledged in open
court by the said Robert F. Northen and with the certificate was annexed
ordered to be recorded.
