1. PETER SMITH⁴ NORTHERN (WILLIAM³ NORTHEN, EDMUND², JOHN¹ NORTHERN) was born August 23, 1750 in North Farnham District, Richmond County, Virginia, and died August 1811. He married JANE ALDERSON January 1774 in Richmond County, VA, daughter of JAMES ALDERSON and SARAH WALKER.

Children of PETER NORTHERN and JANE ALDERSON are:

i. WILLIAM⁵ NORTHERN, born June 16, 1780 in Virginia; died 1846 in Christian County, KY.  He married Lucy Robinson Yeatman June 22, 1801 in Westmoreland, Virginia; born August 20, 1782 in Westmoreland County, VA; died June 05, 1857 in Providence, Kentucky.

ii. JEREMIAH NORTHERN, born April 23, 1788 in Richmond  County, Virginia; died November 27, 1854 in Mason County, Illinois.  He married Susannah Willett; born Abt. 1797.

iii. SARAH ANN NORTHERN, born December 20, 1775.  She married Joseph Redman, Jr. March 06, 1797 in Richmond County, VA.

iv. GEORGE NORTHERN, born November 30, 1794; died October 19, 1828.  He married Ann W. Newsome Abt. 1824.

v. JAMES NORTHERN, born January 07, 1774 in Richmond  County, Virginia; died November 08, 1812.  He married Catherine Gwinn Smith December 22, 1800 in Richmond County, VA.

vi. EDMUND N. NORTHERN, born Bet. 1780 - 1783 in Virginia; died 1843.  He married (1) Rebecca M. Dobyns January 28, 1812 in Richmond County, VA.  He married (2) Peggy Jesper October 21, 1822 in Richmond County, VA.

Marriage Notes for Edmund Northern and Peggy Jesper:  Peggy Jesper was widow of George Jesper.   Edmund and Peggy had no children.

vii. PETER SMITH NORTHERN, Jr., born March 23, 1785 in Virginia.  He married Harriet S. Montague March 14, 1833 in Richmond County, VA.

viii. EDMONIA NORTHERN, b. July 21, 1790.

ix. GENNIA NORTHERN, b. March 10, 1793.

x. ELIAS NORTHERN, born August 04, 1797 in Richmond  County, Virginia; died September 10, 1825.  He married Sarah Kennan.

xi.   JANE NORTHERN.  She married Richard L. Shackleford January 11, 1814.
