Peter Northern
will dated 6 Feb 1858; codicil dated 28 October 1864; proven 21 Oct 1872;
recorded 5 Feb 1873. Webster County KY Will Book 1, page 390.
I, Peter Northern of Hopkins
County Kentucky, being now sound in body and mind, do make &
constitute this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others
previously made by me. To wit:
Item 1st I will and direct that
my funeral expenses and just debts be paid as soon after my death as
possible.
2nd I give to my son Thomas Y.
Northern a part of the tract of land on which I now live, bounded as
follows: Beginning in the line of the said T.Y. Northern at an elm and
dogwood & running then thence eastwardly parallel with the fence &
ditch to the sassafras branch, thence north with my line to the maple
corner of Williams & Jennings, thence South with said Thomas Y.
Northern line to the beginning - containing 70 acres more or less.
3rd As my daughters Harriet H.
Laughlin, Elizabeth C. Cox, Mary N. Givens, and Augusta Northern have
heretofore received portions of my estate, I now give & bequeath to
each of them one dollar of my estate & nothing more.
4th As my son John S. Northern
has received heretofore of my estate one sorrel mare, bridle & saddle
with one Hundred & twenty dollars I will and direct that he my said
John S. have and receive one dollar more of my estate and nothing more.
5th I give and bequeath to my
wife Sarah J. Northern and our infant son Peter M. Northern, and such
other children as may be born to me of my said wife (if any) all the
ballance of my Estate real, personal, and mixed to them their heirs and
assigns forever. And provided my son Peter M. & all other such
children as may be born to me of my said wife should die without issue
before my said wife Sarah J. Northern, have and receive the whole of my
estate real personal and mixed, hereinbefore given & bequeathed to her
& our child or children, she to have & hold said estate for her
own use & benefit during the term of her natural life & at her
death to be disposed of as she may think proper by her last Will and
Testament.
6th I constitute and appoint my
friend Edward Arnold my Executor to execute & carry out this my last
Will & Testament,

subscribe my name and affix my seal the 6th day of Febry. A.D. 1858.

This my last will and codicil:
wishing some change in my will of 1858 in regard to the land I give to my
son Thos. Y. Northern as follows, beginning in the line of the said Thos.
Y. Northern, at an elm and dogwood, running thence eastwardly to a
mulberry post in the field, thence north to a maple and elm on the branch,
S.H. Williams corner, thence continuing north to a maple Williams and P.
Northern corner thence west with Peter and Thos. Y. Northern Line to the
beginning containing Fifty acres more or less. The above described land I
give and bequeath to my wife Sarah J. Northern, and at her death to my son
Thomas Y. Northern. I give and bequeath to my wife Sarah J. Northern all
my stock of every description all my household and kitchen furniture,
farming implements of every kind and description. I want it further
understood that if necessary my wife Sarah J. Northern be appointed
administratrix of my estate without giving bond and security. Given under
my hand and seal this 28th day of October 1864.

15 Apr 1872 by the oath of L.A. Doris & J.R. Johnson as to the will
and the codicil by the oath of L.A. Doris on the same day and also on the
21st day of October 1872 was proven by the oath of G.W. Walker. Recorded
this 5th day of February 1873 by Webster County Clerk J.F. Orr.
