Will
of William Northern (1719) I, William Northern
of the County of Edgecombe and State of North Carolina, do make this my last
will and Testament in a manner and form followeth, being in good health sense
and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same, first and principally I
recommend my soul to God who gave it me, and my body to the earth from whence it
came to be buried in such a decent manner as my executors shall think fit and as
for what small estate it has pleased God to bless me with, I give and dispose o
in following manner: Imprimer,
I give and bequeath unto my son Edmund Northern ten shillings in full for his
part of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my son William Northern ten shillings in full for his
part of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my son Mynta Northern ten shillings in full for his part
of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my son John Northern ten shillings in full for his part
of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my son George Northern ten shillings in full for his part
of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Northern one hundred silver dollars,
and if she should be dead the said sum to her first child that arrives to twenty
one years of age, and if no such children then I give and bequeath the said
hundred dollars to my three daughters Catey, Nelly, and Lucy Northern. Item,
I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret Northern ten shillings in full for
her part of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Northern ten shillings in full for her
part of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Northern ten shillings in full for her
part of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my son Reuben Northern ten shillings in full for his part
of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my daughter Luaner Northern ten shillings in full for her
part of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my son Peter Northern all and every part of my lands
lying in Richmond County in Virginia to him and to his heirs forever. I
also give to my son Peter Northern all my stock of all kinds and everything that
is on that plantation except my negro woman Siner and her children and my negro
fellow George, and my part of money which is due for my part of plantation and
hands. Item,
I give and bequeath to my son Merrmon Northern ten shillings in full for his
part of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my son Kilby Northern ten shillings in full for his part
of my estate. Item,
I give and bequeath to my three daughters, Catey, Nelly, and Lucy Northern all
my lands in Edgecombe County to them and their heirs forever.
I also give to the said three girls Catey and Nelly and Lucy Northern all
my negroes in Edgecombe County, and my negroes in Virginia, Siner and her
children and George, and also I give to the said three girls all my household
goods and all the money in the house and debts due me of all kinds to be equally
divided amongst them when Catey comes to twenty one years of age, and if any of
the said three girls die the said as above to fall to the remaining ones. I
give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Northern ten shillings in full for
his part of my estate. I
appoint my trusty friends Jacob Sessums and Thomas Hodges my executors of this
my last Will and Testament making void all Wills before this day made by me. Signed,
